U9 Saints too hot to handle on way to Epworth tournament win

The U9 Saints enjoyed a fantastic finale to what has been a brilliant tournament season for the team, producing some red hot football in scorching temperatures at Epworth on Sunday.
As well as the heat, the Saints also had to overcome some of the finest teams from the Scunthorpe and Grimsby areas – but did exactly that to finish the day as deserved winners.
After going unbeaten through the group stages without conceding a goal, the team were 2-0 winners over Garthorpe Canaries in the quarter-finals.
The semi-final against App-Frod Arrows proved a tough game between two well-disciplined teams – just as every one of the many battles between the sides this season has been – but after a goalless contest, the Saints kept their cool to progress on penalties.
Discoveries Salters were their opposition in the final, and just when another even match looked like going to spot kicks, a quick change in possession allowed the Saints to attack and capture that elusive and all-important goal.
It earned them a narrow 1-0 success and saw them win in a third final of what has been a remarkable season.
Well done boys for all your hard work and progress during the season.
