U13 Colts end season of progression with friendly defeat at Retford

The U13 Colts brought the curtain down on their season with a friendly at Mid-Lincs County Youth League side Retford United Blacks on Sunday.
On a lush and expansive pitch, in picturesque surroundings, they played some excellent football, but mistakes made in all areas of the pitch were punished as a late goal saw them slip to a 3-2 defeat.
Man-of-the-match, not for the first time this term, was goalkeeper Joseph, who pulled off several eye-catching saves – including one brilliant left-handed stop high to his left which he clawed away from the top corner.
He is the final recipient of the team’s Awards FC trophy this campaign.
Reflecting on the season, in which the team finished in fifth place in the Jack Kalson League’s Cobweb Crystal Division, coach Chris Sumpter said: “Thanks to all the boys for their efforts over the course of the season, and parents for their continued support.
“There have been real signs of progress and development across the squad both as individuals and a collective during the past year, and I’m thankful to work with a group that are responsive to instructions and advice, and always keen to better themselves.”
The U13 Colts are sponsored by Wayne McCool Roofing. We thank them for their support.
