The U8 Saints marked a sunny Saturday with some equally red-hot performances at the Bottesford Town Tournament at the weekend – finishing runners-up to Discoveries Bears following a nailbiting final.

Two wins and as many draws in five group outings saw the team reach the quarter-final stages, and they then progressed to the semis – where they held their nerve to knock out Discoveries Prax on penalties.

With scores level at the end of full-time in a closely-contested final, two goals in extra-time meant it was Discoveries who were the victors.

However, having proven their battling qualities on what proved to be a great day, they can certainly reflect on a job well done.

Coach Paul Highton said: “The players should be super proud of their achievement – the coaches and parents certainly were.”
